Activity of academician M.Ph. Kashchenko in area of introduction and acclimatization of plants during the different periods of his life is discribed. Селекція аналітична і синтетична як результат планомірної інтродукції

Results of the long-term work on introduction and selection of southern and new fruit-bearing plants in the National Botanical Gardens of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine are discussed in the paper. The author shows the possibilities of using genetic diversity of the primary material for creation of promising varieties and forms in the Ukrainian Forest-Steppe and presents characteristics of new varieties, transferred to the State Grade Testing of Ukraine.Висвітлено результати багаторічної роботи з інтродукції та селекції південних і нових плодових рослин у Національному ботанічному саду НАН України. Біологічні особливості айви довгастої в Лісостепу України

The results of long-term investigations on Cydonia obionga Mill. introduction in the North of Ukraine have been generalized. It is shown that the selected perspective forms have been well adopted; their reproductive ability depends on the level of their winter hardiness and is now at the local species reproduction level; in it is even higher in certain years. The main potential biological peculiarities have been studied; their mobilization promotes successful cultivation of Cydonia obionga Mill.Узагальнено результати багаторічних досліджень з інтродукції айви довгастої (Cydonia obionga Mill.) на півночі України. Показано, що відселектовані перспективні форми добре адаптувалися, репродуктивна здатність їх в основному залежить від ступеня зимостійкості і знаходиться на рівні репродукції місцевих видів, а в окремі роки – і вище. Виявлено основні потенційні біологічні особливості, мобілізація яких сприяє успішному культивуванню айви

Experimental data which show value of amigdalin during ability to live of plants are received. Dependence of the contents of amigdalin in seeds is established during storage and stratification, and also in elevated organs (sprouts and leaves) from level of adaptation of cultivars of a quince oblong in conditions of Forest-Steppe of Ukraine.Одержано експериментальні дані, що свідчать про важливу роль амигдаліну в процесах життєдіяльності рослин. Non-SUSY pp-branes delocalized in two directions, tachyon condensation and T-duality

We here generalize our previous construction [hep-th/0409019] of non-supersymmetric $p$-branes delocalized in one transverse spatial direction to two transverse spatial directions in supergravities in arbitrary dimensions ($d$). These solutions are characterized by five parameters. We show how these solutions in $d=10$ interpolate between D($p+2$)-anti-D($p+2$) brane system, non-BPS D$(p+1)$-branes (delocalized in one direction) and BPS D$p$-branes by adjusting and scaling the parameters in suitable ways. This picture is very similar to the descent relations obtained by Sen in the open string effective description of non-BPS D$(p+1)$ brane and BPS D$p$-brane as the respective tachyonic kink and vortex solutions on the D$(p+2)$-anti-D$(p+2)$ brane system (with some differences). We compare this process with the T-duality transformation which also has the effect of increasing (or decreasing) the dimensionality of the branes by one.Comment: 19 pages, late
